The Antikythara is an ancient Greek tool used to calculate celestial bodies locations such as the Earth, Moon and Sun. As a Mechanical Engineer, this is an outstanding feat of its time, especially since it has precise gearing. The fact that the Greeks managed to manufacture such precise gears with limited tooling is so interesting. Not to mention the whole design itself with the gear compounding and all these different sized gears to calculate the posistion of a celestial body. It’s mind boggling of how advanced the greeks were at this time, and its so interesting that this one artifact has caused the history of technology to be reimagined.
